Forms that invite an imagined touch

How do we imagine weight and touch without handling an object? Begin with a base, a curve and the gestures suggested by the form.

NARRA Editorial · An interpretive reading of illustrations

An original digital illustration of a place for small things, with wood inspired surfaces, clearly defined forms and a warm neutral ground. This is a fictional visual study, not a photograph of a physical artefact.

01 / LOOKING NOTES

Follow a curve before naming the object

Follow the edge of a wood study without deciding immediately what it is. Where does the eye continue, and where does it pause? A continuous contour and a clear cut can become long and short beats in a reading of the image.

02 / LOOKING NOTES

A base gives a form its posture

Some forms recall a tray or a seat; others suggest movement through a space. Compare where each form meets the pictured ground. If that contact moved to another side, how would its posture change? This is an imaginative exercise, rather than an assessment of a physical structure.

03 / LOOKING NOTES

Return to a familiar everyday object

Choose one wood study and compare it with an everyday object you remember. Is the connection made by proportion, silhouette or a place to put something down? Pair it with a metal study in your trail to compare your expectations of weight.
